Bridport Innovations, together with Conservation Volunteers Australia, (CVA), are responsible for maintaining the new River- Forest Walking Track for the next five years until 2016.  After that Dorset Council will take responsibility for the track.

To ensure that we fulfil our obligations, especially in the areas undergoing regeneration around Torrington House and Ada Street, we have agreed with CVA that they will provide between four and six working crews every year to undertake routine maintenance work.  In addition Innovations have established a working maintenance fund.  This money will be used to employ a local contractor to regularly mow the accessible areas of weed regrowth between the new plantings and to spray blackberries. Thirdly, we are organising regular working bees to weed around the new plants to encourage the most rapid growth.

Please recognise that despite our best intentions there will be times when these areas of the track may look a bit untidy but you can be confident that we are constantly monitoring the track, and any issues should be addressed via the maintenance plan.

Working Bees River-Forest, Bridport

Working Bees River-Forest Track

Legally, we only have responsibility for the areas one metre either side of the track itself. However, in the interests of maintaining the entire regeneration areas we will do everything we can to look after the wider areas whilst the newly planned flora matures and re- establishes a vibrant and beautiful native bush environment alongside the river.

Details on future working bees will be posted on this Facebook page; Bridport Walking Track. Any new supporters to help maintain the track are most welcome.

If you have any further questions on the maintenance plan, working bees or any track related issues please contact us (Bridport Innovations or consult one of the friendly volunteers at the Pavilion.  Working Bees are usually scheduled for Saturdays 9.00 am – 12.00 pm.  Volunteers meet at the Ada Street entrance to the River-Forest Track posted on the Bridport Walking Track  Facebook Page under Events. All are welcome, please  bring your friends and any useful tools for weeding and cutting grass.
